This reminded me of the writing of George Pelecanos, Caro. Specifically the Quinn and Strange series which ended with such a shocking conclusion. Brilliantly done 👍🏼

Oh, wow! Thank you. I read “Down by the River Where the Dead Men Go” and “The Blowdown,” but that was years ago. Pelecanos did not enter my mind at all. Now, I’ll HAVE to read all his books.
Pelecanos is such an urgent visceral writer when he’s at his best and I felt you captured that perfectly here, Caro. I would recommend the Stefanos series where Down by the River comes from and the Derek Strange series that I mentioned before. Both these detectives, and their families, form a through line across a lot of his novels. He also wrote for The Wire and a lot of work is very televisual. Looking forward to reading more stories in this world 👍🏼
