Your message, is spot on. In all the turmoil, name calling, and divisiveness in our society, we need to slow down, and not forget that beneath all our differences, we want the same things.
Yet beneath the noise and naming,
we seek the same sort of things —
freedom, love, a fair chance,
a place to rest, to dream, to matter.
We want our children safe at night,
our work to mean more than survival,
our hearts to be known,
our lives to make a difference.
That’s a couple of verses from one of my poems.
I live in downtown Mpls, and we have had our fair share of violence and protests. In poetry club we were challenged to write an 8 word poem. I wrote this.
WHO AM I?
Nameless violence,
Crowds fearful silence,
One’s shameful conscience.
So thank you for sharing your words, words that we all need to hear.
