On 9 May 1914, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson, acting on a joint congressional resolution, signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.
I am a mother. My love flame burns bright; The words I speak, the tone I use Light her path, her journey through life. I am a mother. From nascent flutters of thought, To the moment I first held her, I swore to protect and nurture. I am a mother. Through sleepless nights, weary days, Sacrificed my own wants, own desires, Ensured her happiness, fulfilled her needs. I am a mother. In her teen years of angst and yearnings, Supportive when emotions heightened, Attentive when winds of change blew fiercely. I am a mother. Torn between desire to protect, need to let go, Reaffirmed her worth, her potential, Encouraged her to embrace her dreams, to fly. I am a mother. There, as she emerged from her chrysalis of adolescence; There, as she learned to navigate the complexities of adulthood; There, as she transformed into a successful adult. I am a mother. My love knows no bounds; It is an unbreakable bond, Transcending time and space. Because I am a mother. My love flame burns bright; The words I speak, the tone I use Light her path, her journey through life.
Author’s Note
Happy Mother’s Day! Let us celebrate all mothers, for they are the pillars of love and compassion in our lives. Whether you are a biological mother, an adoptive mother, a stepmother, a foster mother, or a mother figure, your role is invaluable and deserving of celebration.
Motherhood comes in many forms, but the love, care, and sacrifice that you pour into the lives of your children is universal. You, who bring comfort and joy, who wipe away tears and offer gentle guidance. You, who teach us what it means to love unconditionally and to be there for one another.
To the mothers who have raised us, thank you for your unwavering support and endless patience. Your love has shaped us into who we are today. To the mothers who are currently in the midst of their journey, may you find strength in the moments of exhaustion and know that your efforts are never in vain.
I wanted to share these photos that remind me of my mother, who had a contagious laugh and endless stories.
She filled her stories with lessons of kindness, courage, and the power of love. With each story she shared, she painted vivid pictures with her words, igniting the imagination.
Her genuine warmth and compassion made her beloved by everyone who knew her. She was skilled at making sure everyone felt seen and heard, of wrapping them in a comforting embrace of acceptance. Those who needed it found consolation and laughter just from her presence.
My brother and I carried the lessons she taught us as we grew into adulthood and explored the world. My mother passed away ten years ago, but her legacy lives through us and our children.
May your day be filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments with your loved ones.
