I've only been to the Caymans once -- about 40 years ago. But I still remember snorkeling there like it was yesterday.

The waters there are so beautiful! Grand Cayman has changed from a sleepy town when I was a child to a place overrun with vehicles and tourists.

I've not been to the Caymans - and I'm not a swimmer, though I used a snorkel while on a rope ladder behind a snorkeling tour boat in Cozumel - photographing fish from above, so I appreciate the kind of environment but stayed safely on the boat. The beauty of a writer's words though, are that they can take you anywhere you mind wants to go. Thanks for providing me the opportunity to tag along.

Diving is such a cool experience; but was always a bit unnerving in that other world. If I ever encountered a mermaid, I would've been running out of that water! Thanks for the tale, Caro!

This was a beautiful story, wonderfully told, Caro. The world under the waves of the Cayman’s sound wonderful. I have always wanted to scuba dive but never had the courage of my convictions! However, when we were in the Maldives many years ago, I did go out snorkelling and saw some amazing sights. The water being that clear was breathtaking on its own, never mind all the wondrous sea creatures. Didn’t see a mermaid though 🤔🙂

You perfectly captured that magical first moment when you try to take in everything you’re seeing. It’s amazing

Also saw a whale once when we were on a ferry from Scotland to Ireland which was cool

I have always thought that the world of our oceans is for more fascinating than the ones amongst the stars. Maybe one day I I’ll get to explore them properly

Thanks for the lovely story, Caro 🧜‍♀️

I’ll also have a think about the prompt as that sounds another interesting one 🤔
